Failure To See Is More Than a Fraud, It’s Fatal

Last week it was reported that Tesla “is facing a class-action lawsuit from Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology customers.” Tesla lawyers said that the “mere failure to realize a long-term, aspirational goal is not fraud.” That argument is contained in a motion to dismiss the case that was filed last week in U.S. District Court in San Francisco.

“Failure to realize a long-term, aspirational goal” seems to be the verdict for conventional approach to autonomy. Ford and Volkswagen threw in their towels and stopped funding Argo.ai’s autonomy efforts. There is one common thread across this, the time and capital expenditure of chasing one edge case after another. Failure to see is not only an unrealized goal but it is a fatality with no recourse. That’s why BlueSpace presents a robust and scalable solution that can work alone, or provide a redundancy for an existing software stack. Given the holidays, we didn’t want to be macabre, so we share a light-hearted yet poignant example of what failure to see for AVs could result in.

BlueSpace is paving the way for a new and alternative path to autonomy.  What does Autonomy 3.0 powered by BlueSpace’s 4D Predictive Perception enable? Near-term, the realizable goal of unleashing the power of autonomy for the US Armed Forces, truck yard and bus yard operations, urban and rural transit, to name a few.

We remove the need for prior training for our system to recognize and measure an object’s true motion. This removes geo-fence, removes the recurring cost of having to collect data to train, and having to upkeep expensive HD mapping. Many of our partners also want an explainable and scalable solution and a simple and safe redundancy.

While no real animals were harmed in our tests, the point is that an autonomy solution that is robust should be able to handle anything. Even a T-Rex.
