Failure To See Is More Than a Fraud, It’s Fatal

Last week it was reported that Tesla “is facing a class-action lawsuit from Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology customers.” Tesla lawyers said that the “mere failure to realize a long-term, aspirational goal is not fraud.” That argument is contained in a motion to dismiss the case that was filed last week in U.S. District Court in San Francisco.

“Failure to realize a long-term, aspirational goal” seems to be the verdict for conventional approach to autonomy. Ford and Volkswagen threw in their towels and stopped funding Argo.ai’s autonomy efforts. There is one common thread across this, the time and capital expenditure of chasing one edge case after another. Failure to see is not only an unrealized goal but it is a fatality with no recourse.
